Health Policies

The health of your child and all the children and care providers at Los Osos Early Care and Education Center is of the utmost importance.

When Your Child is Ill
For the constant health and safety of all at the center, only well children may attend. If you are in doubt of your child’s health, please seriously consider staying home together. While your child may arrive in good health, symptoms of illness may appear during the day. Should this occur, your child will be isolated and you will be contacted to take your ill child home. When your child is sent home with symptoms of illness you are urged not to send him/her to school the following day to allow for a complete recovery.

Medications
Non-contagious children may attend and receive medication at the center when it is in the original, legible container and it is accompanied by a completed Medication Release form. Over-the-counter medication stating to consult a physician for dosage must also be accompanied by the Medication Release form. All medication must be in a labeled, resealable plastic bag and include necessary measuring/serving implement. Never leave medication in reach of your child or any child (i.e. cubby and/or lunch box), but deliver directly to the care provider.

Immunizations/Special Needs
All enrolled children must have a current immunization record on file with the center. In addition, a signed doctor’s statement as to the physical and emotional health of your child and his/her ability to participate fully in the center’s program must be on file. Please have the doctor express any special needs or limitations should your child have them.

Sensitivities/Allergies
As your child grows, more environmental sensitivities and food allergies will become known to you. In addition to the annual health forms which request information about such things, please continuously advise your child’s care provider about new sensitivities as they become known.

Nutrition
Healthy eating promotes physical and cognitive growth. The food provided at Los Osos Early Care and Education Center reflects current, age related dietary guidelines. Consideration for nutritional value, culture, religious beliefs, ethnic background and food sensitivities will all be taken into consideration when planning meals. The center will provide water all day and milk (cow, soy and/or rice) at meal times. Juice will be served in rare occasions. The number of times your child is fed is dependent on the number of hours in attendance at the center. All children eat sitting down and meals are well supervised, however; it is important to send you child to the center with safe and easily eaten food (e.g. no whole grapes or cherries).
